This position is part of the Air Liquide Advanced Materials Business Unit which focuses on highly specialized, ultra-high purity molecules that support the electronics industry. Within a growing business, you will be enabled to significantly add value to a diverse portfolio of products and assist in new product commercialization efforts from a metrology perspective. The Senior Analytical Instrument Engineer will be based out of our Advanced Materials Korea Sejong or Hwaseong , but travel for project related support to our facilities.
Work independently and in collaboration with quality control and analytical subject matter experts (SMEs) for the selection of analytical equipment.
Provide input on instrument procurement and vendor selection. Evaluate equipment specifications, performance, and compatibility with existing systems.
Design upstream and downstream sampling system layouts from Process and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) to individual component selection of valves, pressure regulators and other in conjunction with process engineering.
Validate 3D layouts to ensure efficient workflow, safety, and compliance with industry standards from a microcontamination standpoint.
Collaborate with the automation and controls team to optimize sampling system sequencing to achieve the shortest analysis cycle time.
Lead system Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential failure modes.
Devise appropriate uptime strategies, considering redundancy, Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Restore (MTTR).
Mentors QC specialists and analytical chemists during instrument start-up ensuring the project complies with schedule and is properly handed off to the local team.
Participate in early-stage instrumentations and method development either for new products or new analytical techniques.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve capital project goals. Actively engage with the project manager to ensure projects are on time, on budget, and deliver the required quality.
Assess and recommend future laboratory instrumentation requirements for emerging products. Integrate within the stage gate process on line analytics to improve pilot plant characteristics and quality by design attributes.
Project leader for capital projects for the addition and modification of analyzer systems.
Project manager for equipment installations, commissioning activities, and continuous improvement of metrology systems at ALAM locations.
Expected to travel to domestic and overseas sites as business needs dictate including but not limited to support equipment installations and visit suppliers for commissioning activities. Travel could be 25 to 50% during the project commissioning phase and can fluctuate based on the scale and location of the project.
Ability to communicate effectively and work with cross functional teams
Successfully completes all required training.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's in Chemistry or Analytical Science or chemical engineering with chemistry background
Minimum 10 years of experience in laboratory or production environment
Experience in installation of laboratory equipment
Fluent in English
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with highly hazardous chemicals at a manufacturing facility
Experience in trace analysis and microcontamination control in a sector using similar analytical techniques (semiconductor, environmental, nuclear, etc.) such as GC (gas & liquid), FTIR, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, NMR, etc.
Expertise in metrology systems design and operation for trace analysis
Demonstrated presentation skills
